This beautiful large brimmed hat is made of very fine beige straw...the hat is almost transparent. The short crown is indented around then top, and is covered by ivory colored appliqués. There are more such appliqués applied at random on the brim, as shown in the photos. There is an elastic band attached to the hat to help keep it in place. This is a stunning look!
Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Alternatively, ‘pancake’, ‘mushroom’ or ‘cart wheel’ hats sat flat atop the head reviving turn of the century styles.
Label: WALTER MULLER of California (There are some inexplainable numbers on the label, which were there when we acquired this hat.)
