As to snap needing repair.. will it snap? or do you recommend NOT to snap it closed until after repair. Is it the metal snap that needs repair? or the leather around it?

I'm confused about the strap chain and leather. I see you took a picture. Is the leather longer than the chain or is the chain longer than the leather. I don't understand why the leather is pulled out a good bit? sorry for so many questions. I have had a few bad experiences and now I'm nervous.
