The self-titled debut album by The Motels, released in 1979, is a new wave record that blends elements of pop and new wave music. It features the band's trademark blend of saxophone and rock, with lead singer Martha Davis's vocals front and center. The album includes the singles "Total Control" and "Kix", which became popular both in Australia and France.
The album was produced by John Carter and features the band's original lineup: Martha Davis on vocals and guitar, Jeff Jourard on lead guitar, Marty Jourard on keyboards and saxophone, Michael Goodroe on bass, and Brian Glascock on drums. The album's "Total Control" was later covered by Tina Turner on the "We Are the World" charity album.
