Carrera, founded by Wilhelm Anger, was a global sports and lifestyle brand, named after the Panamericana, the longest and most dangerous race in automotive history. Building upon a brand image of courage and fearlessness, the company started out producing ski and motorcycle goggles. The brand has been designing unique and innovative eyewear since 1956 and eventually collaborated with German car manufacturer Porsche which led to the release of the Carrera Porsche sunglasses collection. The brand continued to sponsor several international sporting events throughout the 1980s, including the America’s Cup yacht race, various Formula One events as well as the Winter Olympic Games, held from February 13 to 28, 1988, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was the first Winter Olympic Games to be held for 15 days, like the counterpart Summer Olympic Games.
