DO NOT PURCHASE! Buyer beware! I purchased my air wrap new, but wanted to buy the dryer second hand. In researching, I found on Dyson’s site that there are tons of fakes that have gotten pushed into the US. They even come with serial numbers and all the items that come with Dyson. Including warranty card. But when you call Dyson they can verify if legit. I’ve seen a lot of brand new suspicious accounts on other sales sites. From what I’m seeing, The real deal should have a surge protector and white circle on power button. Unless it was refurbished and regular plug added. Lots of info online. I’d definitely research and ask lots if questions if purchasing second hand. I’ve been asking for photos of cord and button up close even if NIB. And can call Dyson soon as you get one to verify before accepting an order. Really crazy that this happened and likely most people don’t even realize.

@chellesscloset I’m commenting here since the seller on that other post has blocked me (which shows you that they know they are selling a counterfeit item). But in the US, all hair dyers are required to have the GFCI plug since 1991.

@trishsharpe3819 that’s what I thought. Seller prolly blocked me too! I’ve seen so many even seemed be hiding cord in photos on purpose. And I guarantee posh won’t do anything if report them. I’ve seen at least like ten out of every 50 on these sites that are fakes. And people will say “oh it’s because it’s a foreign type cord or was refurbished”

@chellesscloset if it was refurbished then it wasn’t done by an authorized company. All hairdryers need that plug because it will kill someone if it is on and drops in water. And dyson wouldn’t be liable as it was “refurbished” by someone not authorized.

@trishsharpe3819 I called yesterday when the one I got arrived & explained that the one I had received everything looked legit, except for the fact that it did not have the surge box. I told them That the lady told me that it been refurbished by manufacturer. Well he said That if the serial number ended it with A or B that it was legit. I started looking & even the serial numbers that Dyson released as ones that were being used that weren’t legit all end in the letter A!

@chellesscloset if the plug isn’t a GFCI (the ones with test and reset buttons), I would not risk using it. That’s what cuts off the power if something happens like contact with water. I don’t know about the box/brick thing that is midway down the cord on real dysons - maybe those are taken out on refurbished ones.

After purchasing several counterfeit & legit. I now can tell the difference, especially with the magnet attachments. The real one literally you can barely pull off. Requires serious elbow strength. The fakes are magnetic but aren’t difficult to remove. And the cords swivel very differently. I’ve noticed about twenty “boutiques” this week posting exact same images around 200-250. Be vigilant & request photos of reset buttons on plug. And report those sellers & items!

Thank you all for this information!! I wish I’d seen it before I purchased one. I had a feeling it was fake. It didn’t dry my hair like I thought it should, it was louder than I thought it should be. There were many signs that I ignored When I registered it with Dyson there were no red flags this made me feel it was the real deal. Wish there was a way for everyone wanting to buy a dyson that they could see this post!!! Again I thank you all!!

I have also noticed another sign of a fake listing. If the seller is only posting photos of the box, especially for the airwrap, look at the label for the round brush attachment. If they are spelling it “volumising”, then it’s a fake.
