I was able to sharpen a pencil with unit but it was inconsistent and would make a loud ratchet-like grinding noise and not see to sharpen when it did that. Sounds possible like a gear is slipping but I do not know if that is the issue. Otherwise it has scuffs and scratches. Requires 4 AA batteries (Not included).
