Black 3D Printed Earrings: "Badass"

Copied from Winter Hill Jewelry's website: It all started with a 3D printer. Vanessa Templeman’s husband had brought it home, and it sat in the living room, just begging to be used. For weeks, Vanessa played with the printer and its programming, designing and printing things for her children and learning what it could do. Finally, Vanessa set out to make something for herself. She hand-drew an idea for an earring: a simple leaf. She converted it to a 3D model then taught herself some basic 3D modeling skills so she could manipulate the design. Looking back, Vanessa says that the first prototype was far too big and clunky. But she regrouped and revised, shrinking down the measurements. An upgraded version of the leaf design is still available for customers today. Vanessa was inspired. She added a second design: a hummingbird. Before long, a business was born. Founder Vanessa Templeman studied graphic design and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. She also holds a BA from the University of Minnesota, and an MS in human services from UMass Boston. Vanessa lives in her adopted hometown of Somerville, Massachusetts, along with her husband and two children.
