joyinmyjourney I've heard that technically, in general, opals from the Welo (Wollo) province north of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia are of higher grade/quality but because they are such a recent discovery (2008?) that they are still often quite a bit less expensive than say, Australian which dominate the market. Is this true? I would have thought as they are more rare (quantity and availability) & high quality that they would actually be more expensive, not mess? I find that info a bit confusing, if it's true?

rockcandy4u @joyinmyjourney Most Welo get set in Gold, but some are set in silver. Welo and Ethiopian are pretty much the same materials and chemicals but hype has made them cost what they do. Price really depend on Cut, Clarity, Size and Brilliance. Opals do not have Carat sizing. My Butterscotch Colored Opal Ring is a Welo.
