These beautiful, rare, vintage bread and butter plates are made by Aynsley, one of the most renowned makers of Bone China ware. The Indian tree design is intricately engraved with gorgeous branches of red flowers beside blue and lime green leaves. The designs are bordered with olive color Greek key designs and glossy finish, making each piece elegant and sophisticated. The Indian Tree design was first seen in Indian textiles, particularly in the "pampalones" (lightweight cotton bedcoverings and tent panels). Le Grand Génois (a European textile design) features a similar stylized tree with crooked branches, blossoms and leafy foliage, often in a landscape setting. This motif was popular became popular in Europe in late 17th and 18th centuries. The pattern first appeared in English China in the late 18th century.
