This distinctive Beswick Ware plate was produced in Staffordshire, England. Palm trees have long been associated with grace, elegance, victory, and wealth and have frequently been linked to Paradise in art and literature. They are a perfect focal point for this design (pattern 1072), created by Albert Hallam in the 1940's with some production continuing until the 1960's. The Beswick Company was sold to Royal Doulton in 1969.
The design features a raised, embossed palm tree, which spans the entire width of the plate, on a maroon background. The beige trunk forms an elegant arc across the plate and the fronds are shaded with hues of green, gold, and brown. For an additional touch of elegance, the design is trimmed with gold as is the rim of the plate. The maroon background is high gloss to accentuate the contours of the tree. Even the back of this plate is elegant, covered with a speckled green finish around a white center.
The plate measure 12" x 11" x 2.25".
The plate is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks, chips, or crazing. Perfect as a birthday, wedding, or anniversary gift or as an addition to your collections. Made in England! Thank you! Peace!
