World-renowned artist, Barbara Lavallee has lived in Alaska for over fifty years, celebrating the culture of its indigenous people with art. She taught art to Alaska Natives for years. Her interest in Alaska Native culture is evident . Paintings, prints and jewelry designs reflect Alaskan people – women, children, cats and daily activities.
The unique brooches made by Artique are based on Barbara’s drawings. Alaska inhabitants: stylized women, men, animals – bizarre, lively and dressed in bright colors, made in enamel. Founded in 1971 in Anchorage, Artique was the first gallery in Alaska to represent artists, but closed in 2016.
