Balkan Woven Rug Wall Hanging Bed Cover 28 x 98"

This woven piece is from the Balkans—I’m not sure which country, but it came from a Greek family estate. Pieces like this could be used as rugs or as wall coverings, often around a bed. Alternately, it could have been a bed covering, but it is probably too long and rough for that. The material may be wool or some mixture—it is quite thick and scratchy, rather than soft to the touch. Colors are maroon (not the bright red that some of the photos suggest), black, and yellow. Measures 28 x 98” One end is folded over and stitched. The other is held with decorative stitching. The piece is in good condition but does have signs of wear. There is about a 3” break in the fabric near one end, as shown. The other end is also compromised where it was folded over and stitched, as shown. Several areas in the body of the piece are weakened, but the weave is holding.
