Classic well-written book by Esther Birdsall Darling, full title “Baldy of Nome, an Immortal of the Trail.” Publisher A. M. Robertson, Stockton St at Union Square, San Francisco, California, 1913 (after the earthquake). No book jacket. True story, Alaska sled dog races from the point of view of the dog, who progresses from scorned mutt to hero (among the most famous lead dogs in history). Only 76 pages of the story itself. Lovely photographic illustrations (no color). Condition fine; one tiny dent on back cover edge, slight lightness at spine corners. Prior owner’s stamp and light pencil notations all in usual corner of first bland end paper, otherwise clean. Advanced children’s book but due to its age and value should be carefully handled. (If you don’t need a collector-worthy first edition, you can readily purchase a 21st century reprint instead.)
