Antique wooden box 17” artist painter

Beautiful antique wooden box. My first thought was a pencil box or art box the holes on sides can be used for paint brushes or pencils. I am not sure what original purpose is for, but would be great for an artist. Approx 17” long. Hinged lid. Watermark on top. I think the age and patina add character to this beauty.
