n_hamicksburg @indigolove3 Curious: How does a person know what they are seeing is real ivory? With silver colored metal items, you look for the makers mark or at minimum .925 stamped into the item. Does pre-ban ivory have a similar quick & easy identification method? TYIA 😃

indigolove3 @n_hamicksburg it’s only stamped because the ivory flowers were not attached to a post. I had to drill the hole and fix the post myself. That’s how I know it’s 925. And the flowers were part of a broken piece my father had bought at an estate auction. That’s how I know.

indigolove3 @n_hamicksburg I have other unattached pieces too. And others I’ve made into earrings and necklaces. They’re all part of the lot my dad purchased at the same estate auction. Otherwise I’d have no idea. :)

n_hamicksburg @indigolove3 I looked up pre-ban ivory- there are rules! and documentation requirements! If you aren't familiar with those rules, especially for shipping across state lines, you might want to. I also looked up how to know it's real ivory and how to find out how old it is...can't just look at it. the companies who date the ivory use every kind of science available. it's really fascinating!
