Antique c1891-1911 Nippon Maple Leaf #52 Gravy Boat Handpainted Porcelain

 ANTIQUE NIPPON HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN GRAVY BOAT WITH UNDERPLATE PINK FLOWERS GOLD RIM. Nippon Hand Painted Porcelain Gravy Boat with Underplate is in Excellent, Antique condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Beautiful condition. Small black specks on inside Nippon means Japan and while the "Nippon" mark served its purpose to comply with the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891 for the next thirty years, Customs Officials decided, in 1921, that any piece imported from Japan should be marked "Japan" and not marked "Nippon". So, the "Nippon" mark was no longer the recognizable mark used for these items. For porcelain collectors, this makes dating this piece really easy. Since it is marked "Nippon", then it was made and imported between 1891 and 1921. The hallmark on the bottom of the underplate is 1/4" High, therefore Authentic Nippon. (Van Patten's mark #52) Pattern has pink flowers, green leaves and what appears to be Wreaths of green garland interspersed around the gravy boat & underplate. Gold rim surrounding gravy boat & underplate is in excellent condition, very little fading or wear. Approx measurements: Gravy boat: 7-7/8" L x 3-3/4" W x 3" H  Underplate: 9-1/8" L x 6-1/4" W x 1" H
