Antique Victorian 10K Gold Diamond Garnet Engagement Ring with Original Box

Dating to the late 1890s or so, may I offer this Antique Victorian 10K Yellow Gold (tested,not marked) engagement ring that was presented to me with its original box. One of the things I like about buying from the original owners is that I can often get snippets of the history of the piece. In the case of this ring, the lady who sold it to me related a story about how her mother had come to inherit the piece. It seems the ring belonged to her mother's mother and that it was, indeed, an engagement ring. The small paper box relays the jewelry shop from which it was purchased, Stumpt (or Stumpf) of St. Louis, MO. Needless to say, the company is no longer in business. The engagement ring features 6 prong set diamonds of about 2 points each as well as a faceted, dark red garnet that is about 60 points. The sparkle and clarity to the gems is simply amazing. I had my jeweler do a thorough check of the ring and while it was in his possession he did the one thing I absolutely hate, he polished the band. So, instead of an antique dark finish, the ring now looks almost shiny and new. With time, the gold will darken once more. Ring size is 5 on my sizer. Design on top measures 3/8" north/south (diamond to diamond). This is a delightful ring that I am sure will please any lady who wishes to own.
