katiedidit @mampg01776 "Siam, probably early 1900's, one of the better made pieces from this type ring. Many were made with very light sapphires & pink sapphires which were called rubies but were too light to be ruby. Sapphire & ruby are the same stone just a different color. To be a real ruby the stone must be red not pink. Many were made for the tourist trade & export & called " Temple rings" because of the shape. I have some jars with alluvial stones in them( stones from the rivers in Siam) and you can see the small blue & pink uncut stones among the rocks. When I hit them in my stash I will pic & send you some, they are from the 1970's. >^^<. Thanks for sending me this!

katiedidit @mampg01776 what is the gold carat? I used to see at least 25 rings of this design at every antique show back 10-25 years ago. Come to think of it I have not seen more than 5 in the last 5 years. The design has a problem with the top tier picking fabric so many people stopped wearing them. They also come in multi stones like garnet, sapphire, amey, pink sapphire & white sapphire & sold for $100. The military brought home bunches for their wives & girlfriends back in the 70s -90s. Every military town had them in every pawn shop, vintage store & flea market. It has been a long while since I have seen many of them. >^^<

katiedidit @mampg01776 I just found the appraisal from 1988 on one of these rings that was not as nice as this one. It had cat's eyes, moonstone, tiger eye, blue & pink sapphires & appraised for $450. in 1988. It was described as a "Thai" ring from Thailand which was Siam at one time. I have not seen any in the last 3-4 years anywhere! These pink stones would be "pink sapphires " under GIA guidelines. They have to be red to be called ruby. >^^<

Yes, this is a precious piece, and I have one that' s similar but different. Most likely I should remove such precious items because .08% of PMers are incensed to locate a high price, even when the price is less than retail; and when we consider 14K and 18KT gold... Once I purchased one similar to this, and I'm apprehensive now about sharing such an offering to the general PM crowd. Most if the appreciate it; a few may issue derogatory criticism. I agree that this is a precious piece and I thank you for sharing these pics of it to refresh my mind about international trade and commerce--immense studies.

It's been in the family for a very long time. I wanted to show how previous of a piece it is. I do have one question. Why for heavens sake would they not show the piece and keep it hidden? I've dealt as an artist-craftsman-seamstress throughout my life, but it's hardly worth it as 1 out of 10 prefer to get something as cheaply as possible with no regard for the consequences that they may compel on others. I am not one to accuse others of idolatry, a problem that practices in yoga and Eastern cuisine-nutrition have helped us to control for the most part. Remaining attentive, constructive, and positive I strive in this global society to cultivate compassion, intelligence, and Wisdom always. I know that this Princess ring signifies positive wonder of its creators. These Princess settings are precious indeed--Longevity to you.
