It was an elaborate, portable tent that served as the Jews' temple of the LORD while they wandered in the wilderness for forty years until they could settle in the promised land. The Tabernacle of Moses was custom designed by God Himself, who gave precise instructions on its construction to Moses. It was a sacred place where God chose to meet His people, the Israelites, during the 40 years they wandered in the desert under Moses’ leadership.
