Antique Ostby & Barton 10k Gold Opal Gem Ring

Here is a 10k gold antique Victorian (early 1900s) opal solitaire ring. The ring was made by esteemed vintage jewelers Ostby & Barton, founded 1879 in Providence RI. The owner, Ostby, was actually from Norway and made a name for himself here in America. Tragically, he met his demise on the Titanic in 1912, probably just after the time this ring was made. His company went on to manufacture beautiful jewelry for years thereafter. The ring is set with a natural opal cabochon, with orange and green flashes under the surface. It's set in a tall Belcher / crown setting, with 6 claw prongs securing the opal and holding it up high. The opal is free from damage.
