Antique Extending Brass Key
3.31" length closed
5.15" length fully extended
1.28" width of bow
Interesting brass key that was made to be able to extend out and then retract to a smaller size when not in use rather than have clunky long keys for thicker door locks. Some of them were made for accessing the locks on rum casks. James Deally filed this US patent (patent number 28,457) for the extending key in 1860. This particular key needs to be reworked a little as the ball that locks the extension in place when you want it to be long is clogged up with grease. It doesn't click into place and currently slides back and forth but does not stay. Please see pictures for details.
Please note that color may vary a small amount because of my lighting. If you have questions please ask and I would be happy to help! -Michelle
