Antique Japanese Meiji Satsuma Celadon Ceramic Vase with Ducks and Lotus
Handmade with hand-painted scenes
For sale is a Japanese Satsuma ceramic piece, likely from the late Meiji (1868-1912) to early Taisho (1912-1926) period. The characteristics - such as the light green glaze, raised decorative elements and the embossed seal - are indicative of works produced during this era for export. The texture of the base (the basket-weave or crosshatch pattern) is also typical of Japanese export porcelain from this time.
The maker is likely Gyokuzan or Juzan, both known for producing Satsuma ware during that time. Stamped at the bottom.
The vase stands 7" tall and weighs 1.7lbs
It is smooth to the touch with textural details
White glaze on the inside, light green glaze on the outside with enamel paints and nature elements
Manufactured cracks visible on the inside, formed during production, the cracks do not go all the way through
