Raised beadwork box purse with tubular bead (“sprengperlen”) hanging loops that date it c. 1900-1917. This is the rarest of many beaded whimsey forms created by Iroquois Confederacy tribes in upstate New York and southeastern Canada to appeal to Victorian women, who loved to buy these souvenirs. The Mohawks of Montreal popularized the fanciful box purses.
