This is an exquisite edwardian christening cape. Soft cream or ivory color. The front ties with a gorgeous satin bow that measures 30" when untied and a width of 1 1/2". It is fully lined with what seems to be silk. The outer layer is cotton. It measures 36". It has one small flaw at the bottom as shown in the picture.
This gown is an heirloom from the famous Lee family. It may possibly be as old as the late 1800's. I do know it was worn by the Misses Eleanora O'Donnell Lee, who was the daughter of Joseph Jenkins Wilcox Lee and Mary Kuhn Harris Lee.
He was the Envoy Extraordinary and minister Plenipotentiary for the United States from 1905-07, where he was stationed in Ecuador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Mr. Lee was also friends with Theodore Roosevelt.
The Misses Lee is also the direct decendant to Thomas Sim Lee, who served as the 2nd and 7th governor of Maryland.
