Antique Hand-Carved Wooden Don Quixote Bookends. Please review all pictures for size and condition These are hand carved with imperfections that come with that. Black has nearly vanished from one of the bookends on the book spine. The other bookend is still black on the book spine Also the spelling is different. Book Spines read Don Quijote. I googled it and came up with this explanation. I dont know if that dates these or the artist just choose that spelling. .....The letter J was first used by Gian Giorgio Trissino in 1524, but it only started being used in spanish around the 16th century and only became standard in the 17th. was written in 1615, so the use of the J was not nearly universal at the time.
