Country/Region of Origin Germany
Material Wood & Metal
NOTES FROM THE Appraisal:
Painted wood and gilt metal, canister spring driven timepiece wall clock, "Blinking Eye" Owl pendulette novelty clock, unsigned, possibly made by one of the many Ketterer clock firms in the Black Forest, Germany, circa 1938-1950. DESCRIPTION Blinking Eye Owl, Pendulette novelty clock: 6.5 cm x 3 cm x 1.5 cm painted and shaped wooden wall timepiece in the shape of an Owl. The depth of the case is only 1.5cm but there is a metal canister holding the small movement behind the owl wooden case. The owl is painted with brown, tan, black, gold and white paints and is fairly well executed. In the modern era such clocks are made with quartz movements, but this example appears to be earlier than the quartz era of the 1980s and has a manually wound movement. The dial is centered in the body of the owl and has upright white Arabic hours against a black background with a minute track to the outside. A single winding arbor is located at the six position and the gilt dial center is marked 'Made in Germany' at the bottom (post 1950 this would have said West Germany, not Germany).
Condition: Appears to have some age and in relatively good condition. My best guess is that your example is vintage and most likely dates from circa 1938-1950.
