This is a Victorian, Wightman & Hough, gold color, double photo locket. One side is monogramed ADF and the opposite side has raised, leaf-like designs on one half. Inside are two picture sections which are held with removable gold circles. Hallmark on inner back is W&H CO inside a heart. No markings to indicate metal composition. No hallmarks or metal composition whatsoever on the chain. Locket has some minor dents and scratching consistent with age. This necklace was a gift from my great-grandfather to my great-grandmother and has engraving around one inside edge: "To Anna from Elmer 1912". It has an indented notch to open the locket and needs only a fingernail edge to snap open. Locket measures 1 1/4 inch chain measures 30 inches. **Wightman & Hough Co. (W & H CO.) was established in 1856. Operating in Providence, Rhode Island, they manufactured a variety of gold-filled, rolled gold, and sterling silver jewelry. Each piece was hallmarked with their signature stamp: a heart containing the initials "W&H CO" inside. They were especially known for their lockets, medallions, and seals, and continued production up through the early Art Deco era. A fabulous piece of history!**

kitt3n_xd Hi please take no disrespect but I’m in search of a locket and have bought five off here but all to not be as old as they stated What is reason to sell a family heirloom? Any paperwork stating it as old as you say ?

rosesixx No disrespect taken. If anyone in my family wanted this necklace/locket, I would have happily passed it along. I am hoping to find it a good home. As I look at my photos I see there isn't one clearly depicting the engraving, which says 1912. That is all I have to prove age. I will post more images later today. I will also look through some old photos to see if there is a photograph of the necklace.

rosesixx I've included an image showing the engraved date. I don't have many photos from that period and couldn't locate any where she wore the necklace. As an aside: although I am sure on the locket date it occurs to me that this may not be the original chain.
