This gorgeous hand painted little story box is depicting Russian folk lore. I believe it is from Kholui (one of the four art centers of Russian lacquer miniature painting). It measures 7.25" x 5.75" x 1.5".
I am told that this is the Russian story of the Three Sisters.
There is a very small signature in gold at the bottom of the picture, but I can't make it out as it's in cyrillic.
Overall good vintage condition mild scuffing
