BIRGER JARL Medal by Lea Ahlborn.
A little history:
Birger Jarl (actually Birger Magnusson), born around 1210 in Bjälbo in Östergötland, died 21 October 1266 in Jälbolung and buried in the then Cistercian monastery in Varnhem's monastery church in Varnhem in Västergötland, was a Swedish earl 1248-1266 who first acted informally as guardian of his son King Valdemar from 1250 until he was crowned in 1251 and then shared power with his son until his death in 1266. He is mentioned for the first time in 1237.
