Antique 19th Cent. German Hanau Silver Pelican and Baby in a Bucket Wishing Well
This is a rare Antique late 19th Century German Hanau Silver Miniature Pelican and Baby in a Bucket on a Wishing Well circa 1890's. The piece depicts in very fine, sculpted detail a pelican perched on an ornately carved wishing well getting ready to get a baby that's in a bucket dangling on braided silver wire for delivery. The scenery on the well shows incredible detail of landscapes with trees and children frolicking with a dog and harvesting wheat or tall grass. The top of the piece has a baby cherub detailed front and back presiding over the scene.
The piece was most likely created in Hanau, Germany in the late 1800's by B. Neresheimer & Sohne, Hanau and imported to the UK. around the turn of the century.
The piece measures approximately 2.75" (7cm) tall by 2" (5cm) wide and weighs approximately 36 - 38 Grams.
The Marks on the bottom rim and underneath the well are attributed to German Hanau Silver Neresheimer & Sohne who were founded in Hanau Germany in 1893.
The piece is in excellent antique condition with very little tarnish and wear for its very old age and would make a fabulous addition to any rare silver miniature collection. It was so fun and fascinating to research this fabulous piece that I inherited from my parents estate in Wisconsin.
