Antique 1930s Art Deco green uranium glass silver filigree gold gilt bracelet

Excellent antique condition, shows minor wear to metal consistent with age. This stunning, unmistakably Art Deco-era beauty features silver tone rhodium-plated metal intricately patterned into complex and delicate Milgrain filigree, accented with florals and gilded in yellow gold. The real star of the show here, however, is the richly colored octagonal uranium glass gemstone-a transparent aqua and sea foam green that reveals its true nature under a blacklight. First developed in the late 1700s, uranium glass gets its name from the trace amounts of uranium (specifically oxide diuranate) that is added to a glass mix prior to melting. This special additive causes the glass to glow vibrant green under ultra violet light. While the thought of wearing uranium-laced jewelry may sound scary, don't worry! Uranium glass is considered harmless and negligibly radioactive-no more so than bananas or Brazil nuts.
