Antique 1886 The Peterkin Papers by Lucretia P. Hale.
- The Peterkin Papers is a collection of humorous short stories by American author Lucretia Peabody Hale. The book was first published in 1880, and a sequel, The Last of the Peterkins was printed in 1886. The family consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Peterkin and their children Elizabeth Eliza, Soloman John, Agamemnon, plus three unnamed little boys. They lived near Boston, and encountered difficulties due to their scatterbrained naivete and were rescued from disaster in each case by the commonsensical Lady from Philadelphia. The author based the Lady from Philadelphia on her friend, Susan Lyman Lesley.
- Hardcover published in 1886 by Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston and New York.
- Black and white illustrations throughout
- 219 pages
- Good overall condition for age. Cover has surface wear and bumps to edges. Pages inside are clean however with only some light yellowing and some small smudges and tears to edges here and there. Crack in spine between page 78 and 79, though binding is tight. Inscription of original owner in front and on the very last page there is some writing where it seems the last line was not printed fully so they filled it in themselves.
