In 1995, as part of a book tour kick-off for her novel Memnoch The Devil, Anne Rice rode in a mock jazz funeral procession in New Orleans. She traveled in a coffin in a horse-drawn hearse from Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 to the Garden District Bookshop, where she emerged to sign copies of her book.
