Vintage 1960’s National Bank Alaska-Thrifty McBear-Kodiak. The Bank of Alaska was founded in 1916 and operated throughout the state until Wells Fargo bought it in 1999. This bear is a wonderful piece of memorabilia from the bank and Alaska history. This great bear bank has a lovely copper color on the outside and fabulous detailing on the bear to look lifelike. On the front it is marked, "Thrifty McBear"
On one side it says, "National
Bank of Alaska" and on the other side, "Kodiak, Alaska". It is made by Banthrico Inc. Chicago, U.S.A. Coin slot is on the bottom, but uncertain how coins are supposed to go in there. The bank measures about 5" inches high and about 3 1/2" wide at the base and about 4" inches deep. The bear and base are in very good condition.
Key works and will be included of course. You don’t see these with the key very often.
Pre-Owned but like new condition.
**The previous owner decided to put the bear on a wooden base the wood is pretty heavy compared to the bank and nicely made. They used what looks like museum tack to keep the bear on the base which is the blue on the bottom.
I’m going to leave this as is, although after trying to pry it off the base the tack doesn’t keep it on as great now. If you don’t want the base please let me know when purchasing and I will remove/clean the museum tack off the bottom of the bank before shipping it out. No wooden base will be added to the shipping box.**
