Traditional Craft Aizu Lacquerware Folding Screen Panel Black Gold Lacquer Art from Japan - OPEN TO OFFERS
1232 Hatsune Lacquer Art Folding Screen comes with everything pictured including the original box and inserts. In excellent pre-owned condition with minimal signs of scuffing or wear. The paper and box are in very good condition and show very minor signs of wear from being handled. Smoke/pet free home.
Each panel (two total) measures approximately 12" tall x 14.5" wide, and 3/8" thick and is held together with black hinges as pictured. See photos for additional measurements.
This unique folding screen is perfect to display or use as interior decoration to create a wonderful space in your room. The design of "Hatsune's Furniture'' is based on the Murakami Shinden-style mansion in Rokujo-in and the scene of flowing water in the garden, but it also reflects the desire of parents to convey their love to their daughters through song.
PINK PAPER INSERT TRANSLATION:
The Kanei era, when Chiyohime, the eldest daughter of the third shogun Iemitsu, married into the Owari Tokugawa family. The dowry items were extravagant, luxurious, and extremely beautiful, symbolizing the authority and financial power of the Edo shogunate.
This set of maki-e wedding tools is called Hatsune's furniture because its design is featured in the "Hatsune'' chapter of "The Tale of Genji.'' Hatsune means the voice of the nightingale at the beginning of the year, but it also means "first born.''
