As a member of the 100% volunteer rabbit rescue organization, the House Rabbit Society of MO, I can tell you that pet bunnies are the third most abandoned pet after dogs and cats. We have over 200 delightful buns at our adoption center awaiting furever homes. Any size shape or color, all spayed and neutered and yes - litter box trained! If u r not in MO google for your local rescue. These guys do need to be INDOORS and receive plenty of hay and water but they will reward you w some serious tude!

lolatwinkletoes @fashionfanatic3 I know, right! The babies especially. I love to snuggle with them. The babies all come from pregnant rescues. All of our shelter bunnies are spayed or neutered. 💕🐇

lolatwinkletoes @sassysaintsgal Wow! Yesterday our rescue team captured a little black bunny that had been loose in my neighborhood for a couple weeks. He is now recovering at my home. I named him Blackbeard (he’s part lionhead) & he goes to the vet to get checked out Wednesday. He was outside for so long in the freezing ❄️ cold. And yet he is the sweetest 💕thing. I hope he will be ok.

lolatwinkletoes People who dump bunnies are the worst. We are trying to educate educate educate. You want to tell the people they’re stupid but you really can’t. 😡🤐 We have 200 bunnies at our shelter. And another 100 probably in foster. 7 babies and a momma came in yesterday.

sassysaintsgal @lolatwinkletoes WOW! That's a lot of buns!! You know I've actually lost friends for trying to educate them about the"cute bunny" they impulsively got their kids. We've had a lot of rescues over the last year that were from backyard breeders. I don't know what's worse. Breeders or dumpers. They both make my skin crawl. If only people knew just how sweet and loving bunnies are. All we can do is our part and pray it's enough. 🐰❤️🐰

There are SO many needing homes and more coming along every day bc people don’t know to neuter or spay them and then they, well, breed like rabbits! 😆 THANK YOU for all you do! Being kind to animals is a duty and a calling at the same time. We are their guardians and we must be responsible.

lbearo I am in Oregon and just rescued a bunny. It is not spayed/neutered. We think it is a male. I don't have abundant resources but would like to take care of it better. Are there any resources that you know of near Salem, Oregon?

lolatwinkletoes @lbearo thanks for reaching out! Google “House Rabbit Society” Salem OR to see what comes up. They can offer good advice. Here are some quick guidelines: spay or neuter your bunny ASAP at a vet that does a lot of rabbits (if possible). This is essential for a healthy bunny. Make sure he has a heavy crock of water in his pen - no water bottles! They don’t provide enough water. Lots of good quality hay - all he can eat. You can order online from Dave’s or American Pet Select.

lolatwinkletoes @lbearo Part 2! Some nice greens every night - Kale, Parsley, Green or Red Leaf Lettuce. No Iceberg! It’s gives them the runs. Limit treats like bananas and carrots to small pieces. Give him room to roam - a 4’x 4’ pen is best. Good luck! Ask any questions.
