I'm a Certified Gemologist and love teaching (and learning!) about gemstones & jewelry. I don't know everything, but I can answer a lot of common questions about natural gems, synthetic gems, simulants/imitations, gemstone care, & more! If I don't know the answer to your question I'll do my best to research it & find the info you need. ๐Ÿ˜„ Or TELL ME what you'd most like to learn about gemstones & I'll do some posts about it! Zircon vs CZ? Synthetics & Simulants? Gem Quality? Opal vs Fire Opal?

lexilarue Hi. I saw a listing for natural ametrine jewelry but it was a mix of GREEN amethyst and citrine and came from Pakistan. My limited knowledge (c/o Wiki) is that all natural ametrine comes from Bolivia and is a mix of purple amethyst and citrine. "Any yellow/blue or yellow/green" gems are manmade so says Wiki. What does a Certified Gemologist say? And thank you very much for any response! :)

heidiscathouse @lexilarue Hi! Thanks for being the first to ask a question on here. The yellow/blue is definitely synthetic or color-enhanced, as there is no blue quartz in nature. From what I know about the formation of amethyst, citrine, and prasiolite (pale green quartz), it is theoretically possible for the prasiolite/citrine (green & yellow) combo to exist. But I'm not aware of any instances, I'll have to do more research on that. (1/2)

heidiscathouse @lexilarue If the green is a bright deep green (like emerald, peridot, or chrome diopside) though, it's either synthetic or color-enhanced. I may check with some GIA contacts about this in case there's any new developments! :)

lexilarue Hey, Heidi, thank you so much for your responses! Will check back on that listing - I think the green was pretty bright. You're a doll !!!!
