Art Carney was born in 1918 in Mount Vernon, New York and was the youngest of six boys. A born mimic, Art gained success on the radio before being drafted into World War II in 1943. He was wounded during the liberation of France the following year, received a Purple Heart, and was discharged in 1945. Carney returned to radio work but soon was enlisted into the new medium of television. He is best remembered as Ed Norton on “The Jackie Gleason Show” and “Honeymooners”. Art won 6 Emmys and an Academy Award for the 1975 film “Harry and Tonto”. Carney passed away in 2003 at the ripe old age of 85.
Art signed this 8x10 inch publicity photo from “The Honeymooners” in blue Sharpie. He signed on his sleeve and arm as he did on many of these photos. The vintage picture is in excellent condition for its age.
