belltwinz @simone_mcbrid 😂😂😂 Yaassssss!!!! In my area there's one post office that's like homeland security. They"follow rules" don't even exist at other locations. I just go to another location now. Its farther away but its worth it. The small town "Mayberry" folks have waayyyy too much time on their hands. Just scan the label and move on!! I've had my packages "strip searched" like I was a terrorist. Way too much fun. I'm Just trying to send a Posher their shoes!!! Geez!!

retrouvailles
retrouvailles @belltwinz hey ladies! Chiming in here to share my cautionary tale... I successfully used the "flat rate" boxes to ship dozens of times, no problem. Until one day, out of the blue, I get an irate message from a buyer asking me why I sent her items "COD"! She got a note saying she owed another $11 in shipping (on top of the $6 she had already paid!) So she had to "reject" that box, ship it back to me, and I had to repackage in a non-flat rate box. Such a pain!!!
Nov 17Reply
belltwinz
belltwinz @retrouvailles EXACTLY!!! Had similar experience with flat rate, regional rate, weight issues, you name it. Always something new. Hence.....I made this listing. I just wanna ship my box!!! Very challenging. Frustrating and tricky. 🙏😋😖

leliluv
leliluv LOL I came to share and am just reading this... I usually just cover all of the "flat rate" markings in the box (all sides) with a black sharpie and I never had issues! Have you tried that? Let me know how it goes if you do :) (I'm also reading the comments about buying 2 of the same item when you find something you love... I totally do that and I've recently bought 4 pairs of the same joggers! 😂😂😂)
Jan 20Reply
belltwinz
belltwinz @leliluv LOL. OMG. I tried that. I put grey duct tape over the words and would you believe that in the town of "Mayberry" where I live they have enough free time on their hands to scan the barcode on the box which identified it as a flat rate!!! Can you believe that??!! Who even knew the boxes had bar codes and who would bother scanning them just to find out what kind of box it is.
Jan 20Reply
belltwinz
belltwinz @leliluv So beware. There's people out there with nothing better to do!! And yes....lol. Buying multiples of the same item is an illness I'm trying to cure. No luck so far.
Jan 20Reply
leliluv
leliluv Omg, they scanned the boxes!!! What about covering that with the Posh label?? LOL :) I thing the best thing to do is to create an account at USPS website, choose "free supplies". I have ordered the Priority Rate ones (not flat rate) in many sizes, including a roll of Priority Rate stickers - all free - and they delivered them in wrapped bundles, right to my front door! 👍🏻
Jan 20Reply
belltwinz
belltwinz @leliluv I know, Right??!! Don't worry. I learned my lesson when that happened. Problem is, the barcode appears several times all over the box. Check it out when you get a chance. It's something you would never notice or never even think of until some over- zealous postal worker enlightens you!! I'll definitely order new ones from USPS and save myself the headaches! 👍😎😁
Jan 20Reply
sunnietrish
sunnietrish @belltwinz yes u have to cover all of the flat rate box codes -use paper taped over because they can reject it if you use a marker -the official PO inside of the bookstore checks it all out weighs what I bring in !& keeps the priority boxes behind counter you have to ask -the flat rate ones are in the lobby ! & when u ask they only give 1 box & I have to say the dimensions ! The rural PO gave me 10 boxes today she came out from behind the counter to help

friendsnfashion When I'm desperate and can't find another box I use colored duct tape!! I try to make it look like I'm securing the ends, but I manage to cover up every spot that says flat or details regarding such 🤓. Only when I'm desperate - it makes me too nervous!!

belltwinz @friendsnfashion OMG!!! I know!!! Me too. Ugh!! It's awful. And then I'm biting my nails and pulling my hair out until it gets delivered!!! I'm worried something will go wrong. Like you said......only in emergencies. 😱😬

friendsnfashion It's stupid though right? I'm like - a box is a box!!?!! I asked and I was told it is so they lay together better. Yay ok - but if I use my own random box instead they aren't going to lay right anyway dummies!! 😂😂😂😂

chicknthesticks
chicknthesticks @belltwinz I may be mistaken, but I think Posh has to pay for the extra postage on the Flat Rate boxes. Here's a possible fix if you only have those boxes or envelopes: My dear husband brought home a stack of boxes for me as a surprise, and wouldn't you know, they were all Flat Rate! I was going to exchange them, but I received a Posh package that day and the brilliant Posher had used a Flat Rate box by turning it inside out! The only thing it said on it was Priority! ☺
Apr 27Reply
belltwinz
belltwinz @chicknthesticks That's Brilliant!! Simple. Yet Genious. I too have a ton of flat rate boxes that I need to re- use. Mostly sent to me by fellow poshers when I've ordered something. How they get away with it and I ALWAYS seem to get caught, I'll never understand. But I love your solution. Works for me!! 👍🙆

dragonfly1108
dragonfly1108 @belltwinz Be very, very, very careful turning the box inside out..I did this ONE time..I was in a hurry and instead of finding a non flat rate box, I slit it open, flipped it inside out, taped it up and packed it up. When I got to our post office ( really great gals at ours), I was told to NEVER do that. Every box you get from the USPS has a warning that it is against the law to misuse
May 27Reply
dragonfly1108
dragonfly1108 @belltwinz the box. YES, YES and YES you got it !!! It is against the law to turn it inside out...considered Misuse by the Postal Service. Even if it gets past the girls at the front desk, it can be pulled by ANY employee along the way. It is a FELONY!!!! Destruction or Misuse of Government property.
May 27Reply
dragonfly1108
dragonfly1108 @belltwinz The are provided for FREE by the Postal Service so still owned by them at all times apparently... they allowed and helped me to quickly repackage and I was on my way....so probably not the best idea !! Happy Poshing Ladies !!! Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day Weekend 🇺🇸🎉

May 27Reply
dragonfly1108
dragonfly1108 @belltwinz It seems that just when you think you have a grasp on getting boxes out smoothly they find another way to throw a kink into your plans. My son sells books only and has always shipped them "Media Mail". He went to ship a box out and the clerk asked "any liquids, etc" and he said "nope, just a book"
May 27Reply
dragonfly1108
dragonfly1108 @belltwinz The clerk said "you can not ship media mail" when he asked why, he was told that "media mail" is for items such as text books, etc. Basically items that are for educational purposes, shipped in volume. So all this time it was costing him approximately $3 -$4 a book (hardcover) by Media Mail.
May 27Reply
dragonfly1108
dragonfly1108 @belltwinz After they stopped allowing him to ship MM it cost him $6-$9. It was to expensive. So, he still ships by Media Mail, he just goes to a different location & lies about the contents. I apologize for jumping in on your conversation, but I thought it something to share..have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend !

belltwinz @dragonfly1108 No worries. That's what these feeds are here for. Many Poshers have areas in their closets for chatting. Whether it's a particular topic or just general, random thoughts and ideas. We support one another. What books does your son sell and where? I'm a book junkie. Love to read. 😀😄💙💚💚

dragonfly1108 @belltwinz that you'd love to read..He adds new listings virtually every day..thank you for asking. He doesn't sell here on PM because it's not the forum for it. Obviously, people sell books, etc here, but he wants to respect PM rules. If they ever open books as a category here, he would to prefer to sell here

kel1angel
kel1angel Haha. When I first started on PM in December, I had no idea what a Priority box was, so I called my mom. She said I could just grab it sitting on the counter at the Post Office. Then, I heard a Posher on a FB group say it couldn't be flat rate. Again, it was way over my head. Especially because all the boxes that say Priority at ALL the PO near me say flat rate. Now, I just order them online at usps. But it was a serious source of confusion for me for a while. 😂😂😂

annasattler
annasattler I am a postal clerk. I advise you to not obscure the flat rate logo on a box. It is against postal policy. You can go on the postal website and order non-flat rate boxes. I know that postal employees, like me in my small mayberryish town have alot of time on our hands to check your boxes when you drop them off, but it is MY JOB to make sure it is is not packed in a flat rate box. Happy poshing ladies. <3 :D Not preaching OR judging...

belltwinz @annasattler. Thanks so much for the input. You're a doll. I posted this for that very reason. Getting everyone's feedback experiences and advice. And having a good laugh and poking fun at ourselves never hurts either! Some time just blowing off steam helps. Your input was spot on! Thanks again. 😍✌👋
Oct 09Reply
annasattler
annasattler @belltwinz You're welcome. I've made the same mistakes..turning boxes inside out, covering them, etc. As a clerk, I have the unfortunate privilege of teaching people how to use Flat Rate boxes, and it isn't always well received, so THANK YOU for your kind response. I read a comment above that said to turn the boxes inside out...clerks KNOW that they are flat rate, and someone is going to be charged the flat rate price. Also against postal policies. Thanks again for listening to me.
Oct 09Reply
belltwinz
belltwinz @annasattler. See. More good advice. I didn't know that either. Lol. You are helping a lot of people who read this. I have long ago started ordering the free boxes online. But I'm still always faced with the occasional flat rate or regional rate box that has been shipped to me. I'd like to reuse but it's more trouble than it's worth!! 😌👍
Oct 09Reply
annasattler
annasattler @belltwinz Recycle them. Don't cover them or reuse them. If a buyer has to pay shipping, they may get angry. Free shipping supplies are just a click away. It takes too much energy to cover a priority box, imho. I bought something on here that was covered in brown paper, and I instantly knew that it was a shoebox, which is acceptable to use, but I wasn't happy to see it covered. I didn't tell the seller, why make waves.

emangino2
emangino2 @dragonfly1108 books are books, as long as there is nothing like a letter inside, the clerk who told him that was mistaken. library rate is something different. No periodicals may be sent media either. Media mail is subject to inspection as well. Package may be opened by inspectors.
Oct 25Reply
emangino2
emangino2 Priority boxes were misused when they first came out .Liquid, fragile, perishable or potentially hazardous are mandatory questions the clerks must ask or get reprimanded if the customer is the “mystery shopper”. management forces them to abide by the rules or face suspension if the mystery shopper isn’t asked or told the rules. Every customer is a potential MS.order supplies at usps.com!Everyone must abide by the rules of their job, even if it is annoying
