A RARE Georgian era, late 18th century Solid Gold Black Carnelian Intaglio Ring with hand engraved Hercules Image. The oval dark carnelian measures 18x14mm. Seal-engraving features a classic greek god Hercules or the alternative greek spelling of "Heracles", detailed hair and profile along with his favored weapon, the thorned club, in a yellow gold setting with a closed back and tapering gold shoulders and band. Shoulders measure 6.5mm, band measures 3.8 - 2.45mm. Gorgeous, high quality masculine warrior god carving. A microscopic chip at the top of the signet noticed upon magnification, which, fortunately does not compromise the stones stability. Ring is a size 6.5, and weighs approximately 4.7grams. Stone is a deep blood black color, viewed under close light it features beautiful reddish tones carnelian is known for inside of the carving. It is closed back, so light is limited from entering stone so expect a mesmerizing darkness. Excellent gift or addition to your collection!
