Beautiful antique sterling silver clothes brush set made by the Webster Company in North Attleboro Massachusetts. These belonged to my maternal grandmother who was born in 1885 in Montreal Quebec. Her mother was born in 1862, also in Montreal. I don't know if the vanity set belonged to my great-grandmother originally or not. My grandmother, Alice, gave the set to me 1964. It is Sterling repousse in the Art Noveau style. The Webster Company who was known for its craftsmanship in baby goods and dresser-ware was founded in 1869 and was purchased by Reed & Barton in 1950.
These lovely clothes brushes have bristles that are horsehair and are in great antique condition with the usual, for being over 100 years old, minor bumps and dings. The sterling cover of the smaller brush is loose and should be re-glued. The larger brush is about 7” by 2”, and the smaller brush is about 5 1/2” by 1 12”.
Both of these brushes include the Webster hallmark. It is a wonderful, romantic pattern that features a beautiful Victorian woman. A fabulous gift for Valentine Day, weddings, or birthdays. I am listing other items from the set separately. I have included a pic of Alice when she was young, also in the 50's, still a fashion maven!
