The collection was so unique that it caused stores to build separate boutiques for it. Anne Klein was a fashion designer who created matching separates for working women. She was known as the epitome of designer sportswear and received many awards throughout her career. Her career began in the 1950s in New York City, where she designed petite collections for a company she founded with her first husband, Ben Klein. In 1968, she opened Anne Klein & Company on 39th Street with her second husband, Matthew "Chip" Rubinstein. The company continued her mix-and-match sportswear for women of all sizes.
