This 1940s' black straw fedora consists of a flat top crown surrounded by a medium size brim. The hat is trimmed with 2 bands of black velour over parts of the crown in a diagonal pattern starting towards one side of the hat. At that point there is a beautiful yellow fabric flower bouquet and a few straw loops. To finish the look there is a thin black veil that covers 3/4's of the face, or it can be placed on top of the brim. The veil knots at the back and cascades down, about shoulder length.
Label: NEW YORK CREATION
The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous and wanted to support the New York Creation label and keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue and most of the time it states the hat size.
This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for. 40+ years. Mannequin not for sale.
