allyoop23 @lamercurio the most common Ive heard about is ppl who use fake photos to claim a return & get your item for free. But the scammers are always changing up their methods when they get caught. I just look out for really low offers, weird questions or ppl who haven't been on here very long yet. Sometimes they're fake accts. This recording warning seems to deter them though.

This is VERY discouraging!!!’ I did run across one posh acct that had their email and phone number selling “LV” and would only sell off posh. And yes, I reported that.

allyoop23 @angidabartender Hi Angi! Yes you may use my images :) This isn't meant to alarm or discourage at all. I've been selling on here since 2013 w/o any major problems. I've known others who started this practice long ago but didn't feel it was necessary until recently. It only takes a few extra mins to make a recording & its well worth the effort. Gives you peace of mind - and it makes sure that you THOROUGHLY check your items before sending, so it's a protection to the buyer too! win/win! :)

jacknjoes_depot Definitely something I’m thinking of doing myself. I’ve actually had someone try to screw me over with one of my products. But my pictures and description were very clear and the buyer’s photos were VERY questionable; so much so that even posh requested more information/photos from them. In the end it worked out, thankfully. Definitely need to be careful. While I’m still a smaller account I also make sure to check the accounts of anyone who purchases from me.

tln_shop @allyoop23 Thank you so much! There has only been 2 that have successfully scammed me, but both happened less than 1 month apart and on items that sold for $100 or more. Another tried to scam me last year, but I actually video recorded it all because the buyer's behavior was very odd. I should have learned after the first one especially since there has been a large spike in scamming attempts, but I have such a positive view on poshers that I overlooked the last one. Lesson learned :)

allyoop23 @thriftynest I'm glad you had the video for one of them. Well, here's a new one - just had a buyer claim that an item I sent smelled like smoke. BUT that's impossible. I am highly sensitive to cigarette smoke, my husband has asthma and neither of us has ever smoked. We live in a SMOKE FREE community where it's a violation of our lease to smoke anywhere on property so even our guests never smoke in our home.

allyoop23 @thriftynest but there isn't really a way to prove what something smells like by video. thankfully the buyer still accepted the item and rated it four stars? Just weird. If I got an item that truly smelled smoky and wasn't stated in the description, I would not accept it. I would do a return case. Why accept just to write in the review it smelled like smoke, but still rate it 4/5 stars? hmmm....at least I dont have to defend a return for it.

tln_shop @allyoop23 I figured that this would be another scam since they are aware that orders are being recorded. I don't smoke or have any pets due to my allergies nor do I have anyone every do so in my home. Please let me know how this goes for you. If all else fails and they grant the buyer a return, open up a problem with return immediately (like within 24 hours). Another option would be to message the ceo of poshmark on twitter and put #poshmarkscammer to help.

vtg_bohemian @allyoop23 Lol! I’ve heard that 1 x Time about cigarette smoke when I first started selling on Posh. An I DO NOT even Smoke. Funny thing is another Posher was having that problem continuously w/ her packages for like 3 weeks of shipments & Come to Find our her Postal delivery guy who was picking up her packages from her house was smoking near truck. Long story short that postal employee got in A LOT OF TROUBLE!!.. but, things do happen so it’s better to be Safe than Sorry! 😉

nurse2425 I need to start doing this...I’ve had a wave of scammers recently purchasing and then either damaging my items or questioning authenticity and keeping the item. I’ve never had this happen to me in the seven years I’ve been on posh except for the past month.

Dishonesty is such a shame. I find that doing this does make it take longer to pack orders, but its worth the peace of mind & lack of headaches.

From the stories I've heard like yours, it seems the scams target high priced items or they're looking for a way to return something that doesn't fit since Posh doesn't approve returns for fit issues. It's so wrong to damage someon'es item for that though. Just totally dishonest. I haven't had an item damaged like hat yet and I'm hoping that doing this will keep that from happening.

Or they were scammers who pop up, hit a few closets & close the account to open another under a different name before they get caught. You did the right thing though. No outside Posh business is permitted. You can report them if that happens again. Do you know how to do that?

ghutslar I've started doing this, also. Lost a beautiful jacket due to a buyer damaging it after purchase. They claimed it was torn when it arrived. Returned it with a tear so large a blind man would have seen it. I was appalled that someone would do this to get out of a sale!

mylilcloset @allyoop23 So true! I just am suprised that there have not been safegards in place by Posh by now. It should not be an issue for veteran sellers such as ourselves. Filming can be helpful..but even that is subjective when it comes to the customer's version. I have been burned several times..here and other sites. But I still hold on to the fact that people are inherently good.

I imagine USPS (not so reliable lately) dropping off a package, and the purchaser saying they never received it. Then they get it FREE! Any ideas on how to prevent that? I’m going to ask Poshmark if they can send with signature required.

allyoop23 @lammysloft I see your card game! Posh has an "authentication" process for high end expensive items which may have more shipping options to avoid fraud. I'm only familiar the Priority USPS labels we get for buyers. They have a tracking # & if the buyer claims an item isn't delivered, Posh will open an investigation with the post office for a "lost item."

allyoop23 @lammysloft The insurance would have to be more on a higher $ item too so that its covered if lost/stolen/undelivered. They may still get the item for free if they can fool the post office that it wasn't delivered but the insurance covers it so it shouldn't affect your payment. I would definitely discuss shipping insurance & tracking with Posh for a list of all your options.

rosmassre I was just scammed as well. Buyer purchased a brand new handbag from me and opened a case to return it. Said it wasn’t the same. I got the box returned filled with paper only. No handbag. Poshmark did not rule in my favor. I have been so upset. I sent them pictures of the box and what was in it. I am going to start recording my sales now. Thanks for the good idea.

rosmassre @allyoop23 , I almost took down all my listing as I feel if Poshmark doesn’t have your back and stand by the sellers then what good is it to use them? It’s only good for items over $500. Can you please explain to me exactly how you are recording the item? Do you record it being put in the box and label put on?
