It became Alabama's most successful studio album. A crossover success, 'Mountain Music' peaked at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and #14 on the Billboard 200 chart, launching singles that were successful in several markets. The title track 'Mountain Music' became Alabama's sixth #1 song on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Singles chart. It also crossed over to rank #1 on Billboard's US Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. The second single, a cover of the Exile hit 'Take Me Down,' became the bands' seventh #1 US Hot Country Singles hit. It, too, crossed over to peak at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100. The third release and the bands' eighth #1 'Close Enough to Perfect' also made it onto the Billboard Hot 100, ranking at #65 The album won the 1982 Grammy Award for "Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals" and was ultimately certified 5× Platinum by the RIAA in the US.
