It was the band's first album to feature Brian Johnson as lead singer, following the death of their previous vocalist Bon Scott. The album's all-black cover was designed as a "sign of mourning" for Scott. With the unprecedented reception of the albums' singles 'You Shook Me All Night Long' and 'Back In Black,' the album peaked at #4 on the US Billboard 200 and remained in the Top-10 of that chart for more than five months. 'Back in Black' has been included in several editions of Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The Greatest Albums of All Time" and has ultimately been certified 27× Platinum by the RIAA in the US.
