This is a completely brand new scam on Poshmark. You might have seen really cheap designer listings (Tiffany & Co., Gucci, etc.) where an item is priced really low (as pictured).
Some might think - what’s the big deal? Even if there are authenticity concerns, it’s just $7, $9, or whatever amount it is.
Well, a person that fell for this scam recently shared how it went for them:
- they bought an item;
- it got shipped;
- they received a piece of cardboard in the mail, filed a case with Poshmark and got their money back;
- the next day they received a notification from PayPal that someone made a $1,300+ purchase at Gucci through their PayPal (someone was able not only use their PayPal but also put the correct billing address).
- they had to spend several hours on the phone between PayPal and Gucci, cancelling the order and making sure they weren’t charged for the designer shoes they didn’t order. The shipping address was not theirs, as you might have guessed.
Note, I have no idea how they were able to hijack this persons PayPal (most likely because it’s linked to the email address used for Poshmark, but I don’t know all the inner logistics of the scam) but most people use their home address to receive orders from Poshmark (which is usually their billing address as well), so please be careful out there. Make sure the seller you are dealing with is reputable and has a solid track of sales. Also, if the deal seems too good to be true - it probably is.

Thanks for sharing this. There’s all kinds of scammers here on Poshmark. They try to get rid of them and they come back under another name. I’ve been scammed on here once but I was able to be refunded. I was sold a fake designer bag. I thought it was too good for the price but when I received it, it was as fake as can be.
Dec 15Reply

vsjstudio
@hms5050 I’m so sorry you got scammed 😢 thank you for not giving up on Poshmark and people on here that are honest.

@vsj_al I love Poshmark. They were quick in resolving the issue. That access shut down immediately.

@vsj_al I really just thought they were cheap knock offs lol. which I actually need for a project I'm working on just for fun. it's hard to find brand new knock offs on purpose. 😐
Dec 16Reply

creeevans
@vsj_al I wonder what happens if you don't have PPl and you use. P.O. box to get your mail??
Dec 16Reply

vsjstudio
@creeevans I bet having a PO Box probably saves a lot of folks in this scam (if they have one), not sure about other payment methods but I assume credit cards are harder to hack/obtain info than PPL. But I’m really just guessing
Dec 16Reply

kimberly_franz
Crud, I bought something as a gag gift. Now I’m terrified.
Dec 16Reply

vsjstudio
@kimberly_franz see if canceling the order will help. You should be able to do it within 2 hours of purchase using “accidental purchase” option
Dec 16Reply

creeevans
@vsj_al I did cancel my order. it should at least help those who don't use a PO bx, that will at least keep them from getting the address, right? i also reported. I hope every one does
Dec 17Reply

vsjstudio
@creeevans also, just an idea, if you or anyone else did use ppl, maybe enable a 2 factor authentication through a google authenticator or a similar app. This prevents fraudulent access to ppl accounts very successfully
Dec 17Reply

creeevans
@vsj_al that's probably a great idea. I'm not sure what that means but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. I'm going to call my bank and let them know jic something comes of it , they'll be aware
Dec 17Reply

creeevans
@vsj_al I noticed people are still "buying" from them. is posh not going to take the acct down? it seems like they should be on this right away
Dec 17Reply

vsjstudio
@creeevans they have been slow doing so here recently… I’m not sure why… but these accounts pop up every hour or so, I swear: same listings and everything, just different user names.

@vsj_al Hey dear I forgot to tell you that I got scammed once on AMA zon with my PPL account once. I bought something cheap (forgot what it was) but this Chinese company hacked my account and the next day they completely drained my bank account! I’m not kidding. When I looked at my bank account it said I was -$11,000! Worst day of my life! I was crying and screaming at my bank! Thank goodness after several days I recovered all but $135 from the bank. Not PPL they were horrible!
Dec 19Reply

shopjewelsnmore
@vsj_al So from my experience I did like what you mentioned above and put all kinds of two way verification methods on my computer and phone! 😵💫
Dec 19Reply

vsjstudio
@lovelv187 that sounds like a complete nightmare. So sorry you had to go through this. Someone hacked my Amazon once and all they did, luckily, was to sign up for some kinda streaming service (maybe they were testing it). Anyway, I can’t imagine the extent of stress trying to recover funds lost.. so glad you were able to recover most of your money!
Dec 19Reply

shopjewelsnmore
@vsj_al Thank you! This company started by charging like $2.00 to see what would happen then they kept doing like $200, 300 charges. All night long it went on! I’m glad you were able to fix your situation as well. Thank you again for helping people with this ad! Making people aware of these scammers is so helpful 💝
Dec 19Reply

vsjstudio
@lovelv187 thank you as well! I know you have been reporting them constantly. Unfortunately, it seems like it’s getting a lot worse. Among new listings, that’s all I see now 😕
Dec 19Reply

smenjoylife74
so is this for sale or not? price?
Dec 19Reply

vsjstudio
@smenjoylife74 this is a warning of the ongoing scam where people are tricked into buying cheap stuff and then end up with their p ay p al hacked. I don’t have a necklace like this for sale because the necklace in the picture is fake.

@blueskiesboxes so frustrating indeed. Seems like it’s worse now here lately; especially during late hours and weekend when, I assume, Posh employees are off. Sigh

Thank you for the information
I had liked some items and an offer was sent to me
I noticed it was quite a few items so I made a bundle
I was about to make an offer for a bundle but got side tracked. In my poshmark notifications shows with my name as a response offer cancelled.
All items from that person are gone. Seemed pretty strange
The @ shows an eric but as you click on the name takes you to the storefront all blank and the name is Denise.
Maybe one of these scams

i know this was posted awhile ago- but wanted to pop by and say thank you for posting! i always appreciate notice posts :) i will say that i've been very lucky with amazing deals on posh- and love the site for that reason, with that said it was never under 100. but scams these days are insane! there's one scam going around where they call/phish using BOA's legit/listed 800 number. it's insane what can be done.
