I bought a pair of Zanadi jeans for myself in a store I can't remember the name of at Bay Plaza shopping center in the Bronx in either the late 80s or early 90s. That little boutique was the first plus size shop close to home and they had all the current fashion styles at reasonable prices. They were the acid wash style of the era that is so light the fabric almost looks white in some places. The side had strips of pink denim in a basket weave from just below the waistband all the way to the hem.
As a DIY'er and sewist at some point I decided those jeans needed to be a skirt so with a little pink thread, a tiny scrap of fabric, and some interfacing that is what they became. I can't remember what I did with the leftover denim, it may still be in my sewing stash somewhere. This skirt has been stored in a bin in my attic for ten or twelve years now.
This 30 year old, one-owner, DIY refashioned garment has a discoloration on the left hip as shown in the photo, and other natural fraying and fading that occurs as denim ages.
