This late 1970s Louis Vuitton clutch/crossbody bag is a special piece, crafted during their limited USA licensing run (from 1976-1991) with "The French Company", which sold to American department stores Saks Fifth Avenue Neiman Marcus. It features an Eclair brand zipper pull (which was common before LV started to manufacture its own branded hardware) that aids in its authentication for that time period as well as helps to date these bags which did not start to use a date code until the mid-80s.
The bag has some separation at the zipper area from the opening stitching, but it has been left this way to preserve its value. A skilled person could repair this by possibly hand-stitching or leave the bag open so as not to remove the original hardware and possibly devalue the bag.
Overall, this bag has been well cared for since 1976 (44 years) and still looks great. The leather is still very soft and supple which would indicate it was not abused over the decades. It is really a beautiful piece of fashion heritage that could be proudly carried or displayed as an art piece.
This piece is truly a collector’s dream come true, and a reminder of the quality craftsmanship that made these bags stand out among the rest. It is truly one of the finest examples of this style we have ever come across! We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a timeless piece to add to their collection.
Priced very affordably, based on condition of the zipper, there's still lots of great wea
