Im showing my foot in a size 39 (the pink) & 40 Birkenstock so you can see the fit. There's always some confusion with people that a 40 is a 9, but you can see the difference between these 2 sizes is nominal, and my 8.5 regular width foot fits well in both sizes. A size 9 is always too big for me but as you see the size 40 fits perfectly. So a 40 Birkenstock is a true 8.5.
